Pyrinas.co was founded by Professor Timothy E. Bates, known as “The Godfather of Tech.”

Bates grew up in Michigan’s industrial heartland, where ingenuity and grit fueled entire cities. From leading cybersecurity transformations at Deloitte, to revolutionizing data centers at General Motors, to pioneering AI-powered storytelling for education in Flint, he saw a common thread

After years in enterprise IT, Bates witnessed firsthand how businesses and communities became dependent on cloud giants — losing sovereignty, paying endless fees, and exposing sensitive data. At the same time, as a professor and community leader in Flint, he saw students, nonprofits, and small businesses locked out of cutting-edge AI because of costs, privacy concerns, or cultural bias baked into cloud-based systems.

So he set out to build something different.

Professor Timothy E. Bates — known across the industry as “The Godfather of Tech” — is the visionary Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Pyranis.co, an AI consulting studio that fuses innovation, security, and compliance by design. With more than two decades of experience bridging technology, ethics, and enterprise architecture, Professor Bates has built his career on designing secure, scalable, and trustworthy systems that put people, privacy, and purpose first.

Before founding Pyranis.co, Professor Bates served as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for North America, LAAM, and Canada at General Motors, where he engineered global cybersecurity strategies connecting AI, hybrid cloud, and compliance frameworks across multiple regions. His leadership helped redefine enterprise resilience — enabling GM to protect mission-critical infrastructure while accelerating digital transformation.

Earlier in his career, Bates was a cybersecurity consulting pioneer at Deloitte, where he developed innovative audit automation frameworks and OCR-based recovery systems that transformed the firm’s approach to risk and compliance. His work became foundational to Deloitte’s modern cybersecurity methodology.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served during Operation Desert Storm, Bates specialized in communications and cryptology, mastering secure information transmission and encryption under high-stakes conditions. This experience shaped his lifelong dedication to data integrity, signal intelligence, and mission reliability — principles that remain embedded in his leadership at Pyranis.co.

Beyond cybersecurity, Professor Bates made history by introducing Unreal Engine into the automotive industry as an innovation and simulation tool — merging entertainment-grade visualization with engineering precision. This integration revolutionized automotive design and collaboration, showcasing how creativity and computation can coexist seamlessly.

Today, at Pyranis.co, Professor Bates leads a mission to create trustworthy AI systems — secure, compliant, and governed intelligently. His philosophy of “Compliance by Design” anchors the firm’s commitment to aligning every AI deployment with frameworks such as HIPAA, GDPR, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, and ISO 27001.

As a Professor of Practice at the University of Michigan’s College of Innovation and Technology, he continues to mentor the next generation of technologists, emphasizing ethics, equity, and human-centered design as the foundation for all innovation.
